CONSECRATE TO MEDITATE REQUIRES . . . William B. Kughn A continual study of God’s word. It is imperative that we examine the Scriptures that are able to give life to the soul and vigorous activity for work in 2007. This requires . . . A Thorough Examination of The Truth: We must study daily and systematically so as to show our being approved unto God, a workman that has nothing of which to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Timothy, applying the knowledge of truth to his life, served as a powerful example against error. He put forth every effort to conduct himself in a way to stand approved of God in this life and in the day of judgment. Proper Nourishment: Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). Life depends on the will of God. He supplies the fleshly body with physical food that is necessary to sustain and preserve its existence. He supplies the spiritual body with the word of God that nourishes the soul and energizes the Christian. Every word that flows through the mouth of God refers to the word of His creative, energizing and sustaining power which is the only indispensable source of our spiritual life and well-being. A Desire for Spiritual Nourishment: "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”: (1 Pet. 2:2) Peter paints a realistic picture! Infants vocally and ardently express their desire to be fed regularly, acting as if their life depends on the next feeding. Peter encourages us to “earnestly desire (crave) pure spiritual milk” of God’s word as the newborn longs for milk at feeding time. This results in the spiritual growth of God’s children. Strictly speaking, does this picture truly describe your craving the Word of God? Do you esteem a daily study of God’s Word being as vital to your spiritual existence as breathing the air for your bodily survival? We must whet our appetite! God Bless!
